When is a picture of a room “good enough to frame?” When it’s as artful as the one on @ELLE DECOR’s March 2021 cover: the striking entry hall of a California home designed by Cliff Fong. This cover is one of two unveiled today by @as4d for his first full issue since taking the reins as Editor in Chief last fall. It’s an issue devoted to the intersection of art and design, and the deep resonance of both. Art is a topic close to our hearts—more than ever in a year in which we have missed out on face-to-face cultural experiences, from museums to theater and live music. To fill the void, we offer these swoon-worthy interiors: a Washington, D.C. townhouse where blue-chip works live alongside with avant-garde ones; a Tel Aviv loft that doubles as a studio for its creative owners; and a historic Connecticut house that once hosted Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, and Alexander Calder. In South Africa, we visit artist Willie Bester’s house, which he describes as a “meta-sculpture.” The issue’s theme also gave us the opportunity to go deeper, examining the power of art to help us see and re-see, in essays like poet and novelist Caroline Randall Williams’ (@caroranwill) poignant tribute to her family’s furniture inheritance in the Mississippi Delta. There is more, of course—from powder room inspiration to flowers and fabrics to turn any room into a masterpiece. Join us, won’t you? Read our cover story at the link in bio.
