Welcome to @galleriacolonna, one of the most spectacular palaces we have ever seen. 🤩

This amazing property is built in part over the ruins of an old Roman serapeum, and has belonged to the prominent Colonna family for over twenty generations.

Some interesting facts about this palace:

- It served as the temporary Vatican under Pope Oddone Colonna in the 1500s
- The property is the largest private palace in all of Rome, measuring 60,000 m²
- There is a secret door and passageway between the 1st level and 2nd level which has been used for various secret things over the years. It was mostly recently used during the Second World War when the Colonna Family were forced to entertain the Nazis downstairs, while they were also hiding Jewish families on the floor upstairs.
- The French army fired a cannonball into the main hall of the palace in 1849, during the period of the Roman Republic. It was fired under the orders of General Oudinot, who entered through Porta San Pancrazio and came to rescue Pope Pius IX from the republican insurgents, including Mazzini, Armellini and Saffi, who occupied the historic center of Rome. The damage caused by the cannonball is still present in the main hall today.
