With a heavy heart we wanted to share that yesterday we lost her to a hawk while the girls were free-ranging on a beautiful day. It happened so quickly and was truthfully traumatizing to come outside to. While this is an unfortunate part of keeping chickens, it is still heartbreaking. The circle of life is brutal, but also necessary. Doug loved Matilda and we did too. 💔 ***before I get any comments saying we shouldn’t have let them free range - they have a beautiful enclosed run with a roof that is predator proof. Yesterday was the first non-100°+ day we had in a month and the chickens wandered out of their typical shady spots and into the open.
