I was back at school, trying painfully to get my BA over seven years after having started, and here I was, screwing around with some friends at the Ithaca junkyard. When my buddy John Larkin (or ‘Lahhkin’; he was from Boston) jumped behind the wheel of a wreck, what else could I do but snap a picture? This picture was the only decent one I took during that long fallow period between my decision to become a photographer, and my eventual return to New York to actually be one.
