SoCal water temps have gradually warmed up over the past week thanks to the combination of generally light wind and fairly warm weather. It’s still in the lower 60s through SB, Ventura and Northern LA, but now in the upper 60s to low 70s from the South Bay down through San Diego. This image is generated by data gathered every day by the #SurflineForecast team. We use lifeguard reports, buoy obs, National Weather Service obs (and even get a chance to surf ourselves now and again to verify!). We’ve found that gathering data this way has value over satellite derived SSTs, which struggle during periods of upwelling and/or cloud cover.
