I'll be taking over the Magnum Instagram feed for the coming week posting images from my upcoming book Jet Lag (Hatje Cantz, Berlin, 2015). For those who travel a lot, the world becomes a steel-and-concrete construct of interchangeable flight crews, hotel rooms and check-in counters. In this jet-setting life, the most important thing is that the power adapter fits. Jet Lag (2006 - 2012) consists 128 succinct black-and-white images and three colored illustrations of globalized disconnect. In these photographs, reality is less touchstone than distraction: The important space is “between.” Planes and beds and flickering screens provide the only continuity, and of human warmth there is little but the body heat of the passenger in the next seat and the sounds coming through the wall from the room next door.
