CONFESSION OF A CREATIVE DIRECTOR; In Tulum, Mexico with my amazing team, shooting our new #SamanthaWillsEyewear Campaign.
One of the questions I get asked most is; 'What is 'success' to you' - I find it very hard to define in one thing, or one statement. But one of my measurables of success is, when you can can lose the ideal of traditional work / life balance, and fuse the two so seamlessly together & embrace both, that your work can allow you to take adventures that you otherwise might not have been able to, and as such that your life is a more enjoyable one, when you truly love what you do.
It took a lot of risk, patience and persistence, faith and optimism. Blood, sweat and tears (the tears were often in the shower, so no one would know!), working, listening and learning from incredible people, and also learning things I don't want in my company or value set from some not so truly amazing people, getting doors closed in my face and finding a way in through a (not always open) window to get the #SamanthaWills brand to where it is today (and to able to shoot campaigns in Tulum!). While I still have so many more things on my list to achieve with the SW brand, right now, on set today in Tulum, drinking from a coconut, in a bikini, working with amazing people ( @alimitton, @stojb, @t_wishart, @conorgraham, @zoeweberphoto, @martabez) to bring our campaign to life - it's a beautiful reward and realization, that my dream as a 20 year old, to travel the world with my work, and as such as a 21 year throw caution to the wind (and a sh*t tonne of startup expense on my credit card (!) and start a company that would one day, hopefully allow me the privilege to do so....
