photo by @drewtrush // The Elk, or Wapiti. Antlers that have been growing all summer will soon be shed of their velvet revealing the white hardened bone beneath. As the bull’s rake their antlers to shed their velvet they pick up sap making them sticky. As a result dirt and debris collects on the antlers giving them their distinctive coloration, while the tips tend to stay white.
