Grand Central Terminal in New York City is one of the busiest commuter rail stations in the world, and at 44, has more platforms than any other station.
The current Grand Central Terminal - with its grand beaux arts exterior and fantastical (and incorrect) astronomical ceiling - is the final version of three rail stations built by the New York Central Railroad in approximately the same area in Manhattan. Grand Central Terminal opened in 1913, two years after the Pennsylvania Railroad Company's Pennsylvania Station broke the New York Central rail's monopoly on bringing trains into Manhattan.

Within a few days of opening, a sharp-eyed commuter pointed out that the ceiling, which features golden constellations in an emerald field, was astronomically inaccurate. Though the stars appear correctly as they would from earth, the constellations painted around them appear almost haphazardly. Orion appears correctly, but Taurus and Gemini, for example, appear reversed both internally and in relation to Orion.
