Shenel Johns Quintet performed jazz standards and hymns to honor the Great Migration last night as part of our MoMA Nights series in conjunction with the exhibition "One-Way Ticket: Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series and Other Visions of the Great Movement North," which explores the multi-decade mass movement of African Americans from the rural south to the urban north. "I cannot tell you how important this message (in the exhibition and tonight's performance) is for us now," Johns said.
