As a biracial person in America I have a hard time articulating and even sometimes understanding my lot in life. I've always known I didn't look like everyone else, or sound like what people think I should sound like, but in general have always felt loved and really do like skirting the line between lots of cultures (catholic and southern baptist, city v. country, soul food and latkes). But I am not diggin the current energy flow in this country and recent experiences (many within my own family) have lead me to feel exhausted (but NEVER defeated). I needed this song. I need this song. It makes me feel understood and validated and connected. Being multiracial in America can be a common experience, but it isn't a collective experience. This song helps.
