#Repost @tombilyeu. Being able to question even your most cherished beliefs is the secret to a nimble & effective mind. You must cultivate the ability to rationally evaluate the effectiveness of everything you choose to believe. Yes, belief is a choice, & one belief that is almost certainly holding you back is the belief that you shouldn’t ever quit. The fact is, sometimes quitting is exactly what you need to do. To understand why that statement is gospel & not heresy, you must learn to differentiate between your goals & your path. Your goal is worth fighting for, but you should have no allegiance to a particular path. Show respect only for roads that lead to your destination. Too many people waste precious time fruitlessly banging their head against the wall of a dead end, obsessively focused on not giving up. They spout empty rhetoric about greatness & tell tales of “one day”. Over time, even though they are always moving, they go nowhere. They slowly calcify into empty dreamers. Do not fall prey to this. Do not lose sight of your true objective. Whether your objective is to start a successful business or simply to be the best parent you can, your aim should inform your choices. Seek a result. Not a path. The joy may be in the journey, but until you know where you’re going, you are, by definition, aimless. It is in the destination that a journey finds its meaning. And that purpose for the journey is the thing you should never give up on. That. The purpose. Not the path. The road should be nothing more than a servant allowing you passage to your destiny. Success comes only to those who can rapidly identify a dead end and correct course. Those myopically focused on a single path to heaven, often spend their lives in hell - unable to free themselves from the shackles of their accumulated missteps. Do not give in to this slavery. Learn from your mistakes & change course whenever necessary. Others may perceive this as you succumbing to defeat, but those are the thoughts of fools. The great among us know that sometimes the fastest path between two points involves starting over from scratch. Thusly, never be afraid to change direction whenever success demands it.
