María Lopez Gonzalez, a traditional midwife also known as Doña Mari, massaged her patient, Rosita Gonzalez Lopez, 22. For generations, the indigenous women of #Chiapas state in Mexico have had their babies delivered at home by midwives — women who are respected and loved for their skilled hands and wisdom, as well as for the warmth, affection and comfort they bring to women in labor.
