They said "boarding first class" so Blanche and I went and got in line. They were delayed in boarding so we sat down in the "priority" lane on the 3x7 strip of celebrity red carpet they roll out to let everyone who pays extra for a TVless seat and light bulb heated omelette know that they are special. The flight attendant walked by and announced again, to me and the two other women in that line, "we're doing first class boarding only" and kind of did a slow walk by us/me. Look, I don't fly pretty. I don't wear make up when I fly (why distress your skin even further) and I only wear comfy clothes, even a bra with an underwire is a stretch. I get it, I don't look nice or like I didn't fly standby because my aunt works for the airline. So I'm sitting in the priority boarding lane, and the flight attendant walks by again AGAIN and looks at me in my hoodie, sitting on the floor in sweatpants and goes "once again this is first class boarding only!" And I finally snapped "ok- got it. We are first class and I fully understand you." There is racial profiling, social profiling and today, I was sartorially profiled. I have the right to dress like a slob and be taken seriously! I'm from LA! It's the code of our people! That being said, I believe in judging people based on what they out out into the world, so she was totally wrong- I do think the third announcement was a bit egregious.
