#Repost @tombilyeu: There are people in this world that do everything with grace & poise. There’s an effortlessness to their movements as they dance through life. I am not one of those people. I was diagnosed with hyperactivity disorder as a kid. I required speech therapy to stop tongue thrusting. I ran cross-country, but was chubby so my thighs rubbed together till they bled. I was the only person on my basketball team with an out-dated jersey, because I was the worst player. I had to take the SATs twice just to get a 990. I got rejected the first time I applied to film school, and I was once fired for under-performance. And yet, despite all of that, I have managed to find success. How? I’m not afraid to win ugly. I can only imagine how embarrassed people have been for me over the years. Watching me struggle through activities that were clearly beyond my abilities. Constantly falling down. Always battered. Always bruised. But I’ve never worried about how things look - only whether or not I was moving towards my goals. Don't worry about being effortless. Be effortful. Embrace it. Use brute force. Be too stubborn to yield. Too excited not to try. Value tenacity. And playing to win. So even when winning means crawling across the finish line caked in blood, do it. Don’t worry about looking pretty or doing things right. Just bash away at tasks until they relent to your superior will. Don't concern yourself with being smooth or elegant. Just keep going. When you fail, try again. No shame. When you want success badly enough to face ridicule, you will grow. Let that be your secret weapon. Let your belief in your ability to improve make you impervious to haters. Remember this, my friends, victory doesn’t come from posturing. It comes from grinding it out. From not being afraid to look stupid. Not being afraid to make mistakes. It comes from learning. From getting lost and clawing through mountains when necessary. It comes from focus, force of will & a willingness to get bloody. Do the work. Fight. Fall down. Embarrass yourself. Get back up. Blow past the people who prize being pretty over powerful. And win. For the love of god, win. Even if you have to do it ugly.
