Daisy Benin Santos, a single mother who works as a nanny on the Upper East Side in New York City. Lured from the Philippines by a job agency, she was forced into debt bondage and became undocumented when her trafficker, now in jail, let her visa expire. Daisy hasn’t seen her three daughters in seven years, but they Skype regularly. @xyzacruzbacani — who photographed Daisy at the home of her new employer in New York in June — plans to visit the children in the Philippines. Only a year ago, @xyzacruzbacani, who is also Filipina, was working as a maid and nanny in Hong Kong. She has since begun to document immigrant domestic workers, both there and in New York. “I want to give a visual voice,” she told the #lensblog, “to these invisible people.”
