It will break and break and break, and become a frankenstein of masterful patchwork that brings forth endless experiences with a web of fellow travelers, mechanics, and locals. The speedometer doesn't work, nor does the odometer. The only way to estimate your gas level is to peer inside the tank. Oil changes are usually warranted by the raw and hollow tin sounds that occur when you know the engine's had enough. And after just half a day of learning the ropes, you're hooked. Because this is the tool that exposes you to the elements, a distant and beautiful and peculiar world called Vietnam. Up through high mountains, twisting and turning on the sides of cliffs. Through river beds and streams and flooded city streets. Fully accelerating down an open stretch of valley. Along the coastline of pristine beaches while dodging Russian tourists. Parked alongside your plastic stool as you wait for your drip coffee to accumulate. Surrounded by waving children in the country who seem so happy to have shared that brief moment of "hello!" with a visitor from a distant land, one they may never see.
