We made contacts in a couple of very poor slums along the waterfront of Port Harcourt. The pictures are tough to make interesting or worthy of how terrible the environment is here. It’s deplorable what has become of this place. The government is absolutely corrupt and does not care about the people here. It’s hard to blame the oil companies for this. The government gets enough money to make something of this place. It’s another example of the selfishness of human nature and the despicable way people in power behave all over the world. There is no conscience among many of the leaders and officials of this world. Walking through the muck of human shit and piss and garbage . . near the water’s edge, with crap everywhere and people living among it all,
is enraging. Kids play soccer in a 5-meter square dirt patch but are full of smiles and squeals of joy . . . how can our children complain with all they have? I am thinking of you and the kids in the Adirondacks, trekking in a beautiful and clean environment. I am missing another important experience. #photojournalisms #journal #icausebeautiful #photojournalist #nigeria #nigerdelta Documenting stories around the world often brings a unique perspective that informs my reflections on my personal life.
