This is one of the many very sad stories that you have sent me that involves an AAFP @avmavets veterinarian. The cat owners of these 3 kitties had made an appointment to declaw them because of scratching issues. They had a change of heart to go through with it after reading about soft paws so they cancelled the declaw. The AAFP and @avmavets at an AAHA hospital called them and told them that it was a straight forward and common procedure and that this AAFP vet had been doing declaws for 30 yrs. So the owners brought the kitties in and this AAFP/AVMA vet reassured the couple that their kitties would be ok. He said that he was “old school” and used sutures instead of glue and that he didn’t use a laser. The owners asked if there would be any behavior changes and he said no. 5 months later, here you have the most horrific nightmare three little kitties could ever go through.The cost to save these kitties is up to $75,000. At the $60,000 mark, the vets insurance company told the owners that it would be cheaper to euthanize the kitties.
I really need your help ending this horrific procedure. The unimaginable pain and suffering my mom and I are seeing lately from all the stories you're sending us is beyond belief ??
