Three solar-powered machines produce about 200 pounds of ice a day for the Vila Nova do Amana community in the Sustainable Development Reserve, in Amazonas state, #Brazil. This region of the #Amazon #rainforest could previously only get electric energy from diesel oil. With ice, the community is able to preserve their fish and fruit production, which are their main economic resources. The #solarenergy also supplies the community's homes with water and light for their soccer field.
