And after the Los Angeles Times’ third review of the band, Warners’ producer Ted Templeman got the message and caught their act in a Hollywood bar where the group was playing for free to an empty house. Templeman signed them that night. ‘It was like a dream,’ Roth said. ‘He told us not to sign anything without his permission and we all stood around with our tongues out, going, ‘Yessir, yessir.’ But it happened, man, and the party’s gotten a whole lot better since.’ That’s what Roth likes to sing about - the party. ‘I still feel like a sixteen-year-old,’ he said… ‘It’s an attitude, a feeling, like driving down the Strip with a load of girls, the radio on and a couple cases of beer.
