We were sitting in a small open boat, 20 miles offshore from Monterey Bay, waiting for Risso’s dolphins when I looked up and saw a large jet (most likely an Airbus 380), seven miles away soaring across the sky. I could not miss it as it left a huge wake of contrails (short for condensation trails) in the -40F air. As the jet approached the waning moon I couldn’t help but grab a quick shot.
