Lucian Freud's only known self-portrait #drawing featuring his first wife and Kitty Garman is unveiled to the public in #London for the first time in almost 70 years following its rediscovery. The artist gifted Girl and Self Portrait to the late Sonia Brownell, second wife of celebrated author #GeorgeOrwell, between 1947 and 1948 shortly after it was drawn by the #artist. Sonia was almost certainly the inspiration for the heroine of George Orwell’s seminal novel 1984 and a close friend of #Freud during the late 1940s.
