The Grand Service, a magnificent silver-gilt collection, is ready to be laid out in the Ballroom of Buckingham Palace ahead of the China State Visit Banquet tomorrow.

Preparations for the banquet begin several weeks in advance, as the porcelain, glass and silver-gilt are cleaned and polished, the damask tablecloths, napkins and doilies are pressed and the wine is selected. Around 150 guests attend the banquet; this will include members of the Royal Family, the President's suite, members of government, business leaders and other guests whose background or work connect them to China.
