iPhone photo by @stephenwilkes: Block Island is a small tourist destination just off the shore of Rhode Island, known for its summer homes and beautiful coast.
These structures floating in the sea just past its shore, are two of soon to be five foundations which will hold wind turbines just miles from the coast. If all goes well, come 2016 these turbines will provide electricity for over 17,000 homes making Block Island home to the nation's first ever offshore wind farm.
The distortion seen here in the horizon is not from a panorama gone wrong--but instead from the exhaust of an aircraft engine as I crossed the sky above them, taking in a view soon to be forever changed.
