In my @getfitandthick classes, I have a rule: "if you can't clean it, you can't lift it."
Even when you're doing lower body movements, a strong upper body and core are necessary to protect your spine.
Here are the proper ways to put the bar on and off before and after a workout like walking lunges.
Lifting heavy is great, but safety is always first. Protect your spine by keeping the chest out and back flat. The core should be tight! Lift through heels and power up! When you're ready to dismount, pop the bar up and over your head and then pause for a moment to ensure that your form is in tact. Keeping the back flat, rotate the elbows up and drop the weight as if descending into a deadlift.
