Being on the water you can't help but notice how incredibly quiet everything is until a huge piece of ice shears off or an iceberg the size of a house suddenly decides to roll over. Environments that freeze in the winter and partially melt in the summer offer far more dramatic signs that Earth is warming than most places. It is unlikely that a human will detect a one degree increase in average yearly temperature, but it's easy to visually see that a glacier is substantially smaller than it was the year before. This is one reason why the Arctic and Antarctic ecosystems are forefront examples of climate change. Seeing is believing...
