What is the nature of power? By my estimation it is the ability to close your eyes and envision the world the way it could be and then open your eyes and make it so.

We all have potential. But not everyone actuates their potential. Said another way, everyone dies, but not everyone lives. Small decisions about what to do and believe every day leave some feeling empowered and others imprisoned. For the helpless, time simply passes, washing over them like water over rocks - wearing them down over time till nothing is left but sand and a grand canyon. The empowered, however, become like water and learn to persist, wearing away the obstacles in their path till they have reshaped the landscape into the world they want to see. How? They learn. They grow. They adapt and change - driven by the acquisition of knowledge.

What you are capable of is determined entirely by what you learn how to do. We don’t come pre-programmed. To maximize our environmental adaptability humans come hardwired to apply learned knowledge, but with precious few specifics pre-written into our DNA. We have the how, but not the what. Knowledge must be acquired over time and with effort. And so over time the driven acquire the key of knowledge and unlock the uniquely human ability to gain mastery. In doing so they are the ones who rule the world, because they are the ones who understand how it works. And in understanding they can control and shape it. That is the very definition of power.

It is only reading and experience that can catapult you forward. And just as humans are the only animal that can kill at a distance, we are the only animal that can learn at a distance. A book bestows knowledge across time and location - without requiring direct experience. I read, therefore I move forward.

Whether the water wears you down or you become the water that carves a path through this world, only you can decide, but mastery is yours if you desire it. Reading is your gateway.
