The October winner for the @unoosa and @NASA #whyspacematters competition is from Ella, aged 9, from #Australia who posted a drawing to highlight the importance of outer space for sustainable development onEarth. She said “#whyspacematters because satellites can predict the weather and help us to grow food” (@year3lovesspace). Remote sensing satellites provide key data for monitoring the environment for assistance with crop development, rainfall assessments, etc. and to anticipate and mitigate the effects of food shortages. This monthly competition is highlighting how space contributes to development throughout the globe. Snap a photo and use #whyspacematters to share how space and space technology makes a positive difference in our daily lives. I will post a new winner on 15 December!
