In the spirit of giving on this Thanksgiving Day, we found it too difficult to isolate just one ocean basin for this week’s #PurpleBlobOfTheWeek. There is much to be thankful for all around the Northern Hemisphere, so we opted to spread the wealth across a good chunk of real estate. In the North Atlantic, the kicker is actually a beast of a high pressure area moving east of New England and Canada that will help stabilize an impressive fetch of W winds aimed at Europe for a significant weekend/early next week swell event. The same high pressure system will send waves to the U.S. East Coast over the next several days as well. Many places receiving these swells in the Atlantic will have onshore wind problems, but not all.
We also have two notable features in the Pacific — 1) Hurricane Sandra, which recently became the strongest hurricane on record in the eastern North Pacific for this late in the year and 2) A developing storm that will move through the Aleutians over the next 48 hours and send a solid to XL swell to Hawaii and eventually portions of the U.S. West Coast through the weekend.
Finally, longer range charts are pointing towards an active Mediterranean Sea with decent swell potential for Israel and beyond by the end of the weekend. Please check the #SurflineForecast in these areas for all of the latest details. Happy Thanksgiving! -- @MWillisSurfline
