Fifty years ago today, at one of author Ken Kesey’s “Acid Tests” in an old San Jose Victorian, the #GratefulDead played their first ever public show. “Our equipment filled the room, damn near, and we were like really loud and people were just, ah...there were guys freakin’ out and stuff and there were hundreds and hundreds of people all around, in this residential neighborhood, swarming out of this guy’s house,“ #JerryGarcia said in a 1972 interview. “We just decided to keep on doing it, that was the gist of it...the #AcidTest was the prototype for our whole basic trip.” Photograph by Michael Ochs Archives
