#TBT from the April 1990 issue of National Geographic. I spent two years photographing endangered animals using a photo technique I created which allows the viewer to see the full beauty of the animals’ form, line, color, and texture. As I wrote in the article that accompanied, “humankind does not stand removed from animals and nature—we are an integral part of the vast network of life forces. Because of certain aspects of our cultural heritage we have exiled ourselves mentally from that network at a terrible cost to the animals and ourselves. Their endangerment and their alienation mirror our own.” #COP21 is drawing to a close and it is important to remember that the decisions made by our leaders at this conference affect more than just humans.
