Today is my Mom's 70th birthday. Born Grace McCormick in Newark, NJ to an unmarried teenager, my Mom's birth mother was pressured into giving up newborn Baby Grace to the Catholic Charities. The Church placed her with my Grandparents. At 9, my Grandparents officially adopted my Mom and changed her name to Grace Schultz. 10 years later, she'd marry my Dad and become Grace Smith. One woman, many names. But for as far back as I remember, I've only ever known her by one name: Mom. She taught me right from wrong, she bought me Star Wars toys, she dried my eyes when I cried and gave me shit whenever I was being an asshole. If you've ever liked me or anything I've ever done, it's all because of Amazing Grace. I love you, Mom! Happy 70th!
