photo by @randyolson | @thephotosociety | This is a false leaf katydid. Genus is Cycloptera. These katydids are sexually dimorphic... the males are smaller... this is a female. She lays eggs from her ovipositor which is made up of 6 pairs of flat blades that move independently and the top edge of the blade has saw teeth. The ovipositor both saws into wood and lays the eggs into the wood at the same time. This @ナショナルジオグラフィック assignment involved accompanying a Conservation International Rapid Assessment Team (RAP) into the jungles of Suriname.
