Photo by @nickcobbing Here’s a carpet of frost flowers from the Arctic sea ice. These frost flowers are a common feature that tend to grow on new thin sea ice, under cold and calm conditions. Brine freezes into the delicate crystals of the ‘flowers’. The formation and role of the frost flowers is still not completely understood and scientists are keen to research them further, particularly how they release sea salt aerosol into the atmosphere. This picture was taken whilst on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック.
