What @billyjoecrawford has on his head is a headpiece made from the mane of a lion that was already found dead. However, one of the OLD Maasai traditions had once required their young warriors to hunt down lions as a rite of passage to manhood. This stopped once they realized that the lions were quickly decreasing in number. In the 60's, there were 70,000 lions here in Kenya. Today, there are only 17,000 left. This is solely due to poaching, which is now strictly prohibited. The Maasai people are not afraid of lions, but they are afraid of elephants, rhinos and buffalos. As they say over here, "Buffalos never forgive, and elephants never forget".
