In one of #FranciscoOller’s last still lifes, the artist monumentalized the pineapple, a tropical fruit cultivated in Puerto Rico from the pre-Columbian era onward. The dynamic group of pineapples seems to tumble across the composition and remind us of the painter’s ability to highlight local foodstuffs in order to convey a sense of place in an art literally rooted in the Caribbean.?
