The Independence Day festivities begin with a presidential address to the people followed by a military parade and end with fireworks in the evening. On this day you can find numerous cultural events, food fairs, exhibitions, performances and more. This day is also known as Soup Joumou Day, the name signifies a pumpkin that the Haitians weren’t allowed to eat until they gained their independence. Over time it became tradition to eat a Joumou Soup on Independence Day. Independence day in Haiti is an important holiday.
