@Robert Clark
While working on one of favorite stories for @ナショナルジオグラフィック, "The Other Darwin" about British explorer, naturalist and beetle-collector Alfred Russel Wallace.

Over one hundred and fifty years ago, in #Borneo, Wallace made a breakthrough, that lead to his developing the theory of #naturalselection, the basis for the theory of #evolution. Along with Darwin (who had been working with the same ideas for over 20 years, since his return from the Voyage of the Beagle) the idea was presented and then published in 1859 in Darwin's book, Origins of the Species.
While working on the story we decided to photograph the animals and places that Wallace was inspired by. Orangutans were one reason that Wallace came to Asia between 1854-1862. “One of my chief objects in coming to stay in Sarawak was to see the
#Orangutans (or great man-like ape of Borneo) in his native haunts, to study his habits....." from a letter by Wallace. #Darwin #Evolution #AlfredRusselWallace @thephotosociety
