Ona Odulate was a Yoruba sculptor from Lagos, whose career spanned the most intense period of Nigeria’s colonisation. He specialised in making small painted figurines, many of which depict colonial officials and their families. He considered his work to be naturalistic, denying it was in any way satirical.
