On a visit to the Angkor Panorama Museum in Siem Reap, Cambodia, @lucforsyth photographed the VIP room, which features a painting of North Korea’s Mount Chilbo. The museum, which opened in December, is a sweeping homage to what historians call one of the greatest cities in the world between the ninth and 15th centuries and the capital of the Khmer empire. But almost everything that went into it — the money, the concept, the design and the artists — came not from Cambodia but from North Korea. The new museum is the most ambitious foreign project to come out of Mansudae Art Studio in Pyongyang, one of the world’s biggest art factories. It took 63 artists, flown in from North Korea, 4 months to paint a 360-degree vista covers an area the size of nearly 4 basketball courts.
