I stand for the rising of true self-esteem in women. Thank you for this thought provoking post @theseakin on a topic that feels important and pertinent to address. I preface, I think it's sweet if women choose to post bikini pictures of themselves online or on Instagram, when it comes from a place of healthy self appreciation and from a place of consciously appreciating the magic of the feminine form.

I didn't quite have a word for this insidious internalisation of the objectifying gaze - that chronic self-consciousness that inhibits us in all kinds of ways. That is, until I read this month's @DumboFeather interview with Joyce McFadden.
We know about the sketchiness of objectification: when we're bombarded with imegary that values appearance over ability - when surfing magazines run more images of women in bikinis then women surfing - they're telling a clear story to readers about what a woman's worth is.
Nobody has the power to divine our worth except for us. Except, we're believing all of the thoughtless drivel imagery. Not so shockingly, exposure to objectifying images leads to self-objectification, or chronically monitoring ones physical appearance. Look at any beach culture instagram account! Or the token shot of a "bikini babe" on many of the big surfing outlets." - Psychological Science
Patriarchy wins if this continues. We've taken the work out of demeaning women by enforcing the oppression on ourselves and policing each other.
What are we going to do about this --- So our sisters, mothers, daughters, besties don't feel obliged to drink this shitty Kool-Aid any longer?"
