There is a small pool in Yellowstone national park were bears go to bath .. the Bear Bath tub. There are no human hiking trails nearby and the location will not be disclosed . We were blindfolded everytime we went to check the cameras.
That is a joke but seriously this is a place were humans never go and it makes me feel good to know that we have a wild enough spot for this to be the case.
To make our images we used unmanned cameras that were triggered by motion only in the day time. @ronan_donovan and @kira_cassidy did the hard work with me (@michaelnicknichols ) and park bear biologist Kerry Gunther advising.
Get the Bear Bathtub facts in Yellowstone Science .. http://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/yellowstone-science.htm
To understand the issues of having Bears and Wolves on the landcape read @davidquammen in an entire issue on Yellowstone for the May 2016 issue of National Geographic Magazine.
