“Ever since I can remember, I’ve been surrounded by airplanes. My father, Eugene Richardson II flew a [P-51] in World War II as a #Tuskegee Airman. They were the first African-Americans allowed to fly for the U.S. military. My father returned from #WWII to a nation still under the grip of Jim Crow laws. He couldn’t become a commercial pilot flying white customers.
---
History finally caught up with the accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen. When it was my turn to fly, all the barriers had been removed by men like my father. I earned my wings in the @アメリカ海兵隊, and in 1986, American hired me as a flight engineer. The airline was expanding then, and I made captain by 1991.

Men like [my father] forged the path for our military, our country and for me personally as a commercial aviation pilot.” – Eugene Richardson, #AATeam Captain
