Learn about a little-known chapter of Indian history through the largest surviving example of an Assamese devotional textile, the ‘Vrindavani Vastra’ – on display until 15 Aug 2016 in our free exhibition in Room 91.
At over 9 metres long, it is made up of 12 woven strips, featuring scenes from the life of the Hindu god Krishna. There are three different depictions of Krishna defeating the serpent Kaliya on the textile, and here you can see Krishna dancing in joyful victory on the outspread head of the demon.
