#OnThisDay in 1922, Rafael Moreno Aranzadi, known as Pichichi (Little Duck), died, aged 29. The prolific striker won several trophies with Athletic Bilbao in the 1910s and 1920s. He also played in Spain’s first ever international and was the star of the 1920 Olympic Football Tournament where Spain won the silver medal. A bronze statue of him stands outside San Mames. In 1953, Spanish sports newspaper Marca introduced the Pichichi Trophy in his honour. It was awarded each year to the top scorer in La Liga.
