I went to see John Tropea’s gig at Cotton Club Tokyo with my wife three days ago. The band was John Tropea on guitar, Rusty Cloud on Hammond B3, Neil Jason on bass, Steve Gadd on drums, "Blue" Lou Marini on tenor saxophone, Randy Brecker on trumpet, Larry Farrell on trombone, and Ronnie Cuber on baritone saxophone. Wow! What a great band! Steve Gadd and Neil Jason played their funky groove. Neil Jason played his Sadowsky with Markbass amp. I love his playing. Steve Gadd was needless to say great. The horn section was fabulous. The timing and balance were perfect. The solos of each horn player were fantastic. John Tropea’s playing was so bluesy. I love not only his solos but backings. Anyway, I was knocked out by their music and had a great time listening to top musicians at close range.
