グッゲンハイム美術館のインスタグラム(guggenheim) - 3月9日 03時33分
On #InternationalWomensDay, we admire Colombian artist #DorisSalcedo, who addresses social injustices through sculptures, installations, and site-specific interventions. A retrospective of Salcedo's practice was on view at the Guggenheim in 2015, featuring the seminal work "Atrabiliarios" (1992–2004). In this installation, worn shoes were enshrined in wall niches covered with semi-translucent animal fiber, which gave them the hazy remove of a memory that is perhaps slipping away. In some cases, the shoes, placed singly and in pairs in rectangular nooks carved into the drywall, belonged to individuals—mostly women—whose whereabouts are unknown. For the family members left behind, these shoes represent traces of the absent individuals. In fact, footwear often provided the only means for identification of loved ones murdered and interred in mass graves. Learn more at guggenhiem.org/salcedo. ? @dmheald
