Catalan Photographer Marcel Giró was pivotal in the development of Brazilian photography in the 50’s. A seasoned war veteran, Giró sought to translate to a modernist vocabulary a critical engagement with the post-war social environment. This awesomely clean view of my native São Paulo brings to mind the sense of alienation conveyed by the paintings of Giorgio de Chirico.
