First night back in Tokyo, it's raining hard and cold, so I stayed close to the hotel and went to the famed Midori Sushi where you have to wait in line with the rest. The mass appeal of fresh unadulterated sushi in Shibuya has spread from blue collar to tourist, but still it remains simple, fresh, seasonal, friendly, good. Pedestrian in Japan is very different from pedestrian in the U.S. This is a nation of foodies, where the palates have been nurtured and trained to detect the subtlest of flavors and freshness. This is why I detest eating Japanese in the U.S. -- even when it's as its best, it comes with pomp & circumstances, not to mention a price tag not deserving. I am home.
